The feast of Saint Valentine is steeped in the legacy of three remarkable saints who have left an indelible mark on the annals of history. Saint Valentine, also known as Saint Valentine of Rome, was a priest who lived in the 3rd century AD. According to legend, he secretly performed marriages for young couples in the Roman Empire during a time when the Emperor Claudius II had banned marriages to have more soldiers for his army. Valentine was eventually discovered, arrested, and put to death for defying the emperor's edict. He is revered as the patron saint of lovers and is celebrated on February 14th, which is known as Valentine's Day.

Saint Therese of Lisieux, also known as Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, was a French Carmelite nun who lived in the 19th century. She is renowned for her strong devotion to God and her "little way" of spiritual childhood, which emphasizes humility, trust, and love. Her devotion to Saint Joseph and her promise to "rain down roses" on those who remembered her after her death have also earned her a place in the hearts of many. After his death, she became a nun and is known for her intercession in difficult marriages and other seemingly impossible situations. She is the patron saint of impossible causes.
